Assistants and Summer Interns
We have done this a long time and out INTENT is to provide a learning environment for young people to succeed and be GREAT in horse sport management as well as riding. it doesn't matter how well you can sit the trot if you don't understand how to feed, how to take care of the barn, the veterinary and farrier basics.... this is what we teach!
Assistant Director/Barn Mgr. - HOME
Role & Responsibilities:
Housing, full board and daily lessons plus experience-appropriate wage provided in exchange for:
Regular barn work and horse work - ride yours plus at least one of ours; lunge, side rein, round pen, flat, gymnastics, stadium and xc jumping - we have it all and teach it all!
- Develop the skills to run any size horse facility with full responsibility for feed, forage, and facility management and oversight
- Learn the "business stuff" about a break-even analysis, how to know if you are making money or only spending it
- learn how lesson barns and boarding barns and training barns are different, which one you prefer and which one you can actually make money with!
- Which feed and why?
- What footing and why?
- What is wrong with my horses leg? what do I do for that cut? is my horse sick? How to i avoid colic?
- so much to learn, and a high level of responsibility for the "home farm" when we are away at competitions
Ass't Director/Barn Mgr. - On the Road
Role & Responsibilities:
Housing, full board and daily lessons plus experience-appropriate wage provided in exchange for:
Regular barn work and horse work - ride yours plus at least one of ours; lunge, side rein, round pen, flat, gymnastics, stadium and xc jumping - we have it all and teach it all!
- Learn to be a great Road Manager for off-property schooling outings and competitions.
- Pack the trailer
- Manage people and horses at the off-site venue
- Show prep and after cars - ice boots, poultice, standing wraps, walking out and lunging, go-to-the ring and learn the in-gate, the schooling area, walk the courses, learn how to walk for strides in stadium and what to look for on xc... the whole thing!
- We will help you get your next gig and maybe it can be in Europe!
- Compete your horse if appropriate
- Compete our horse if you are ready
- You do NOT have to compete at all - but learn how to manage the "on the road" SportHorse barn!
